JAKARTA, Oct 28 2005
Asia Pulse - Publicly listed state-owned fertilizer company PT Pupuk Kaltim and PT Parna Raya agreed to establish a joint venture to build an ammonium nitrate plant in Bontang, East Kalimantan. The plant will have an annual production capacity of 200,000 tons, the largest in the country, with an investment of US$104 million, said Detrius Sinaga, a director of the joint venture company PT Pukati Pani. Sinaga said the new factory will reduce the country's dependence on imports for ammonium nitrate used for explosive material mainly by oil and coal mining companies. Construction of the plant will start early next year and it is to be completed in 2008. Currently the country produces around 30,000 tons of ammonium nitrate a year as against requirement of 200,000 tons.
